Abstract  Abstract

A method and system for segmenting data in a wireless communication network. The data may be partitioned using multiple base stations for transmission to the user equipment to improve bandwidth when the UE is at the cell edge or may be partitioned by the user equipment for transmission to multiple base stations to improve handover have. Data partitioning may be performed at the packet data congestion protocol layer of the user equipment or base station, at the radio link control layer, or at the medium access control layer. Data may instead be segmented at a network node, such as a serving gateway, to reduce the X2 interface load or delay carrier aggregation.
