Abstract  Abstract

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for encoding and decoding TFCI of a CDMA mobile communication system are provided which provides basic TFCI and extended TFCI through one encoding/decoding apparatus to reduce loss of hardware and supports an error correcting-coding for the basic TFCI and extended TFCI to improve service stability. CONSTITUTION: An encoding apparatus generates basic mask sequences that perform row replacement for m-sequences according to row replacement function to secure a desired minimum distance, and encodes a transport format combination indicator(TFCI) using the basic mask sequences and basic Walsh codes. A decoding apparatus multiplies a reception signal by all the mask sequences to calculate correlations with all the Walsh codes, and decodes the TFCI according to a Walsh code index and mask sequence index corresponding to the maximum correlation value among the calculated correlation values.
