Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system capable of transferring an existing session between two terminals in which two systems and two different IP addresses are involved.

SOLUTION: Disclosed are an apparatus and a method by which Internet Protocol (IP) traffic can be transferred (i.e. handoff can be performed) between two different terminals operating according to two different technology standards in two different systems with two different IP addresses. For example a session handoff can be made between a terminal in Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and a terminal in a 3GPP UMTS or between a terminal in CDMA 2000 and a terminal in a 3GPP UMTS. These terminals can be either different logical entities encapsulated within a common enclosure or physically separate entities.
