Abstract  Abstract

A device, e.g. machine type communication device (MTC), communicates with another device in a wireless communication system and is arranged to receive configuring information defining a detach configuration. The device uses the detach configuration to autonomously perform an implicit detach operation when terminating the communication link with the other device. The implicit local detach is performed without any signalling associated with the detach operation. The device may receive the configuring information in a wireless configuring signal that may take the form of an attach flag transmitted on a broadcast channel, the flag associated with a subset of devices operating in the communication system. The device may also receive a flag-reading configuration signal which enables the device to read the attach flag. The configuring signal may comprise non-access stratum (NAS) signalling. Optionally, when the detach configuration includes an explicit detach mode, the device transmits an indicating signal, e.g. a detach request message, indicating the detach operation.
