A method for use in a short message service, SMS, proxy, including the method: receiving an SS7 message of signaling system 7, which contains intended SMS data for a destination user equipment that is associated with a local area network wireless, WLAN, through an Internet protocol, IP; extract the SMS data from the SS7 message; receive information from a base position register, HLR, the information related to a correspondence mapping an international mobile subscriber identity, IMSI, of the destination user equipment to an Internet protocol, IP, based identifier of the destination equipment ; generate an IP message based on the SS7 message and the information received from the HLR, in which the message or IP messages includes the SMS data, the IP-based identifier of the destination computer, and an IP-based identifier of the Proxy of SMS; and transmit the IP message to the destination user equipment over the IP via the WLAN.
