Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus for providing a concatenated positive recognition / negative recognition (PAN) field indicator (PAN) and a probing indicator is disclosed. A combined field of a PANI bit, a relative reserved block period (RRBP) bit and an EGPRS complementary polling (ES / P) field may indicate a polling scheme and the presence of a PAN field. Alternatively, the presence of the PAN field in the data block can be indicated using a specific training sequence. Alternatively, forward error correction (FEC) coding can be carried out in the data block that includes the header and the presence of the PAN field can be indicated by encrypting the encoded bits corresponding to the header with a specific encryption sequence . Alternatively, a header check sequence (HCS) can be generated and the presence of the PAN field is indicated by mixing a predetermined sequence with the HCS.
