Abstract  Abstract

A serving radio network subsystem (SRNS) relocation method is implemented in a wireless communication system. When an old serving general packet radio service (GPRS) support node (SGSN) indicates that a source RNC requires SRNS relocation the new SGSN sends a relocation request message to a target RNC indicating a single tunnel operation a tunnel endpoint identity (TEID) of a gateway GPRS support node (GGSN) the identification number of a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and the packet data protocol (PDP) address of the WTRU. The new SGSN sends an update PDP context request message to the GGSN indicating a single tunnel operation and the target RNC TEID. The GGSN updates a binding of the target RNC TEID with the WTRU PDP address and the identification number. A new tunnel is established between the target RNC and the GGSN and an old tunnel between the source RNC and the GGSN is released.
