Abstract
A method and apparatus for cell update while in a Cell_FACH state are disclosed. After selecting a target cell system information is read from the target cell including high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) common system information. A radio network temporary identity (RNTI) received in a source cell is cleared and a variable HS_DSCH_RECEPTION is set to TRUE. An HS-DSCH medium access control (MAC-hs) entity is configured based on the HS-DSCH common system information. High speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) transmission is then received in the target cell. A CELL UPDATE message is sent to notify of a cell change. The HSDPA transmission may be received using a common H-RNTI broadcast in the system information a reserved H-RNTI as requested in a CELL UPDATE message or a temporary identity which is a subset of a U-RNTI. The MAC-hs entity may be reset.

Claim
1. A method for performing a cell update from a source cell to a target cell while in a Cell_FACH state, the method comprising:
detecting a cell update triggering event while receiving a high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) transmission in a Cell_DCH state using a dedicated high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) radio network temporary identity (H-RNTI), the cell update triggering event comprising at least one of a radio link failure or a radio link control (RLC) unrecoverable error;
initiating a cell update procedure upon detecting the cell update triggering event;
clearing a radio network temporary identity (RNTI) received in the source cell;
reading system information in the target cell; and
based on common HS-DSCH system information included in the system information, resetting an HS-DSCH medium access control (MAC) entity in the target cell, and enabling HS-DSCH reception by setting an HS-DSCH reception variable to TRUE.
2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
sending a CELL UPDATE message via a random access channel (RACH); and
setting up HSDPA communication based on the common HS-DSCH system information included in the system information.
3. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for performing a cell update from a source cell to a target cell while in a Cell_FACH state, the WTRU comprising:
a controller configured to:
detect a cell update triggering event while receiving a high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) transmission in a Cell_DCH state using a dedicated high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) radio network temporary identity (H-RNTI), the cell update triggering event comprising at least one of a radio link failure or a radio link control (RLC) unrecoverable error,
initiate a cell update procedure upon detecting the cell update triggering event,
clear a radio network temporary identity (RNTI) received in the source cell,
read system information in the target cell, and
based on common HS-DSCH system information included in the system information, reset an HS-DSCH medium access control (MAC) entity in the target cell, and enable HS-DSCH reception by setting an HS-DSCH reception variable to TRUE.
4. The WTRU of claim 3, wherein the controller is further configured to:
send, via a transceiver, a CELL UPDATE message via a random access channel (RACH); and
set up HSDPA communication based on the common HS-DSCH system information included in the system information.
5. A method for performing cell reselection while in a Cell_FACH state, the method comprising:
selecting a target cell that supports Enhanced Cell_FACH;
reading system information broadcast from the target cell;
resetting a medium access control (MAC) entity configured in a source cell;
configuring the MAC entity based on the system information broadcast from the target cell; and
receiving a high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) transmission in the target cell.
6. The method of claim 5, wherein the system information comprises high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) common system information.
7. The method of claim 5, further comprising clearing a radio network temporary identity (RNTI) received in the source cell prior to receiving the HSDPA transmission in the target cell, wherein the RNTI is at least one of an HS-DSCH RNTI (H-RNTI) or a cell RNTI (C-RNTI).
8. The method of claim 5, further comprising enabling HS-DSCH reception by setting an HS-DSCH reception variable to TRUE.
9. The method of claim 5, wherein the MAC entity is reset for a common H-RNTI and another MAC entity is reset for a dedicated H-RNTI, if the common H-RNTI and the dedicated H-RNTI are configured with separate MAC entities.
10. The method of claim 5, wherein the MAC entity is reset when at least one of the following occurs: the cell reselection results in an inter-Node B cell change, the cell reselection results in an intra-Node B cell change for a Node B that does not support MAC preservation, if reordering queues are used, or an indication is received from a network to reset the MAC entity.
11. The method of claim 5, further comprising sending a radio link control (RLC) status report upon the cell reselection.
12. The method of claim 5, wherein the system information includes at least one of a high speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH) scrambling code and channelization code, channel quality indicator (CQI) feedback information, a number of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARD) processes, memory partitioning, or a set of reserved H-RNTIs.
13. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for performing cell reselection while in a Cell_FACH state, the WTRU comprising:
a controller configured to, while in the Cell_FACH state:
configure a medium access control (MAC) entity in a source cell,
select a target cell that supports enhanced Cell_FACH,
read system information broadcast from the target cell,
reset the MAC entity configured in the source cell,
configure the MAC entity based on the system information broadcast from the target cell, and
receive a high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) transmission in the target cell.
14. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the system information comprises high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) common system information.
15. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the controller is further configured to clear a radio network temporary identity (RNTI) received in the source cell prior to receiving the HSDPA transmission in the target cell, wherein the RNTI is at least one of an HS-DSCH RNTI (H-RNTI) or a cell RNTI (C-RNTI).
16. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the controller is configured to enable HS-DSCH reception by setting an HS-DSCH reception variable to TRUE.
17. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the controller is configured to reset the MAC entity for a common H-RNTI and another MAC entity for a dedicated H-RNTI, if the common H-RNTI and the dedicated H-RNTI are configured with separate MAC entities.
18. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the controller is configured to reset the MAC entity when at least one of the following occurs: the cell reselection results in an inter-Node B cell change, the cell reselection results in an intra-Node B cell change for a Node B that does not support MAC preservation, if reordering queues are used, or an indication is received from a network to reset the MAC entity.
19. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the WTRU comprises a transceiver, and wherein the controller is configured to send, via the transceiver, a radio link control (RLC) status report upon the cell reselection.
20. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the system information includes at least one of a high speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH) scrambling code and channelization code, channel quality indicator (CQI) feedback information, a number of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) processes, memory partitioning, or a set of reserved H-RNTIs.
