Abstract
Systems and methods of scheduling grant-based traffic and mapping resources for grant-free traffic are provided. Grant-based traffic is scheduled in a first frequency partition, and grant-free traffic is mapped in a second frequency partition. In a first option, grant-based traffic is also scheduled in part of the first partition, but in a limited manner that ensures a given devices transmission and retransmissions do not all experience interference with the grant-based traffic. In another option, some grant-free traffic is mapped to part of the second partition and is spread in frequency across the second partition.

Claim
1. A method comprising:
receiving, by a first user equipment (UE) from a base station (BS), a high-level signaling indicating a resource mapping for an initial transmission of a first data packet and at least one retransmission of the first data packet for grant free uplink transmission; receiving, by the first UE, an assignment indicating a number of retransmissions for the first data packet; performing, by the first UE, the initial transmission of the first data packet and the at least one retransmission of the first data packet based on the resource mapping and the number of retransmissions, wherein the number of retransmissions assigned for the first UE is different than a second number of retransmissions assigned for a second UE; wherein the number of retransmissions assigned for the first UE is one or two.
2. The method of claim 1, wherein
the initial transmission of the first data packet is transmitted in a first frequency partition, wherein the first frequency partition comprises time frequency resources dedicated to grant-free transmissions.
3. The method of claim 1 wherein the resource mapping is such that no two UEs can overlap for both the initial transmission and all retransmissions.
4. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one retransmission is performed using a different MCS than for performing the initial transmission.
5. The method of claim 1 wherein the resource mapping maps different frequency resources for the first transmission than for the at least one retransmission.
6. A method comprising:
transmitting, from a base station (BS) to a first user equipment (UE) from a base station (BS), a high-level signaling indicating a resource mapping for an initial transmission of a first data packet and at least one retransmission of the first data packet for grant free uplink transmission; transmitting, by the BS, an assignment indicating a number of retransmissions for the first data packet; receiving, by the BS, the initial transmission of the first data packet and the at least one retransmission of the first data packet based on the resource mapping and the number of retransmissions, wherein the number of retransmissions assigned for the first UE is different than a second number of retransmissions assigned for a second UE; wherein the number of retransmissions assigned for the first UE is one or two.
7. The method of claim 6, wherein
the initial transmission of the first data packet is transmitted in a first frequency partition, wherein the first frequency partition comprises time frequency resources dedicated to grant-free transmissions.
8. The method of claim 6 wherein the resource mapping is such that no two UEs can overlap for both the initial transmission and all retransmissions.
9. The method of claim 6 wherein the at least one retransmission is performed using a different MCS than for performing the initial transmission.
10. The method of claim 6 wherein the resource mapping maps different frequency resources for the first transmission than for the at least one retransmission.
11. A UE comprising:
a receive chain and a transmit chain; wherein the UE is configured to: receive, from a base station (BS), a high-level signaling indicating a resource mapping for an initial transmission of a first data packet and at least one retransmission of the first data packet for grant free uplink transmission; receive, an assignment indicating a number of retransmissions for the first data packet; performing the initial transmission of the first data packet and the at least one retransmission of the first data packet based on the resource mapping and the number of retransmissions, wherein the number of retransmissions assigned for the UE is different than a second number of retransmissions assigned for another UE; wherein the number of retransmissions assigned for the UE is one or two.
12. The UE of claim ii, wherein
the initial transmission of the first data packet is transmitted in a first frequency partition, wherein the first frequency partition comprises time frequency resources dedicated to grant-free transmissions.
13. The UE of claim ii wherein the resource mapping is such that no two UEs can overlap for both the initial transmission and all retransmissions.
14. The UE of claim ii wherein the at least one retransmission is performed using a different MCS than for performing the initial transmission.
15. The UE of claim ii wherein the resource mapping maps different frequency resources for the first transmission than for the at least one retransmission.
16. A base station comprising:
a receive chain and a transmit chain; wherein the base station is configured to: transmit to a first user equipment (UE) a high-level signaling indicating a resource mapping for an initial transmission of a first data packet and at least one retransmission of the first data packet for grant free uplink transmission; transmit an assignment indicating a number of retransmissions for the first data packet; receive the initial transmission of the first data packet and the at least one retransmission of the first data packet based on the resource mapping and the number of retransmissions, wherein the number of retransmissions assigned for the first UE is different than a second number of retransmissions assigned for a second UE; wherein the number of retransmissions assigned for the first UE is one or two.
