Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus are disclosed for indicating a temporary block flow (TBF) in which an acknowledgment / no acknowledgment (PAN) field to be sent piggyback is addressed. The PAN check sequence (PCS) is generated using cyclic redundancy check (CRC) encoding, for example. The PCS is masked with a temporary flow identifier (TFI) assigned to the TBF, or masked with a mask generated based on the TFI. Then, the data block containing the PAN field and the masked PCS is processed for transmission. The mask can be generated by transforming the TFI using the (M, N) code. M is not larger than the number of bits of PCS, but is the number of bits of TFI of N. In this way, the TFI may be sent in the PAN field without using explicit bits to identify the TBF.
