Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus for time-based fast positive ACK / NACK reporting (FANR) operation in an enhanced general packet radio service 2 (HGGE) uplink (HGGE) is disclosed. The wireless transmit / receive unit (WTRU) configures the downlink FANR operation and the EGPRS-2 mode uplink transmission to not conflict. The Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) for EGPRS-2 mode uplink transmission may be limited to an MCS containing at most two RLC data blocks. Alternatively, when the EGPRS-2 mode is configured, more than two PAN bits may be used for time-based FANR operation. Alternatively, at least one PAN bit for a group of RLC data blocks may indicate an ACK or a NACK. For time-based FANR operation, the number of PAN bits can be configured by the network. The downlink FANR operation can be dynamically switched between time-based FANR operation and SSN-based FANR operation according to the configuration message.
