Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus for using multiple carriers is disclosed. A wireless transmit / receive unit (WTRU) capable of receiving on one downlink carrier at a time can tune the receiver to one downlink carrier and switch the downlink carrier according to the configured pattern. The WTRU switches the carrier from the anchor carrier to the non-anchor carrier at the high speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH) subframe boundary and from the non-anchor carrier at the end of the next high speed physical downlink shared channel (HS-PDSCH) It can be switched to an anchor carrier. The WTRU may switch the carrier at the HS-PDSCH subframe boundary. A WTRU capable of receiving on multiple downlink carriers at the same time can tune the receiver to an anchor carrier and an additional carrier and switch the additional carrier to another carrier based on the carrier switching order. The carrier transition order may be received via HS-SCCH or through layer 2 signaling.
