Abstract  Abstract

A method for processing a control channel in a user agent (UA) to identify at least one of uplink and downlink resources allocated by a resource grant within a multi-carrier communication system, Are defined by control channel element (CCE) subset candidates, and the carriers used for data transmission and reception are configured carriers. The method comprises the steps of: receiving activation signals defining activated carriers and deactivated carriers from among the configured carriers; identifying, for the activated carriers, (i) the number of CCE subset candidates to be decoded; And (ii) decoding the identified number of CCE subset candidates in an attempt to identify the resource award; And ignoring, for deactivated carriers, CCE subset candidates associated with the deactivated carriers.
