Abstract  Abstract

The method and apparatus of the present invention allow reliable and low complexity reconstruction of the EGPRS2 communication burst when RTTI and BTTI equipment operate on the same timeslot (s). Various configurations regarding uplink status flag (USF) mapping employ adjustable bit replacement of all or some USF channel coded bits within a communication burst. Also disclosed is a configuration that allows for the adjustable use of symbol mapping steps at the transmitter and receiver to allow for higher throughput and / or reduced complexity. Acceptable mapping rules are known to the receiver and transmitter and therefore the complexity of recovering this information is reduced. To increase the throughput of the EGPRS2 communication burst, RTTI transmissions of different modulation types or EGPRS / EGPRS2 modulation and coding schemes are introduced during the BTTI interval to allow reliable USF reconstruction and reduced decoder complexity.
