Disclosed are a method and apparatus for transmitting a reference signal in a wireless communication system. Apparatus and methods include a reference signal (RS), transmission in a resource block supporting multi-antenna port transmission, at least one broadcast channel provided in a resource block belonging to a first set of resource blocks, and multi-antenna port transmission The first group of reference signals transmitted in the at least one resource block and the second group of reference signals transmitted in the at least one resource block belonging to the second set of resource blocks. Preferably, various resource elements RE are used for each reference signal in the resource block. For example, an exemplary embodiment for reference signal support of eight reference signals is provided.
