Abstract  Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for setting a mobile station identifier, which is identification information of a user equipment (User Equipment) used when data transmitted through a dedicated logical channel in a 3GPP asynchronous (UMTS) mobile communication system is transmitted through a common transport channel.

The present invention includes the steps of transmitting a message type indicator, which is information for mobile station identification, together with data from a Radio Resource Control layer to a Radio Link Control layer; The radio link control layer is configured to set a mobile station identifier according to the transmitted message type indicator and transmit the data to a medium access control (MAC) layer. In the medium access control layer, the mobile station identifier indicates an indication. And selecting the mobile station identifier type and the mobile station identifier and attaching them to the header of the MAC SDU to transmit them to the receiving medium access control layer.

Therefore, according to the present invention, when the data transmitted through the dedicated logical channel is transmitted to the common transport channel and the need for the identification of the mobile station using the mobile station identifier is not required, only one type of mobile station identifier is collectively set. By using the transmission, unnecessary waste of radio resources can be reduced.
