Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manage medium access control (MAC) resources performed by a radio network controller (RNC).

SOLUTION: An extended MAC entity is configured for each common E-DCH resource of one or more common extended dedicated channel (E-DCH) resources. Each common E-DCH resource can be used for communication with a plurality of wireless transmit receive units (WTRU) that use a common E-DCH for common control channel (CCCH) transmission in at least one of a cell forward access channel (CELL_FACH) state and an idle mode. In order to configure an extended MAC entity for each identified common E-DCH resource a signal to identify at least one common E-DCH resource of one or more common E-DCH resources is transmitted to a node B 420 indicated by the signal.
