Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) which performs inter-frequency measurement and/or inter-radio access technology (RAT) measurement during a measurement gap during which downlink transmission to the WTRU is interrupted and therefore becomes possible to tune its RF receiver to other frequencies and/or RATs to perform the inter-frequency measurement and/or inter-RAT measurement thereby solving a problem of both DL reception and UL transmission being interrupted during the CM gaps in accordance with the current 3GPP UMTS specification to cause a degradation of service.

SOLUTION: Techniques for performing inter-frequency measurement and/or inter-RAT measurement are disclosed. A multi WTRU may receive downlink transmissions via a plurality of downlink carriers simultaneously. The WTRU may perform when at least one of receivers is disabled the inter-frequency measurement and/or inter-RAT measurement by using the disabled receiver without using measurement gaps.
