Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus that allow for reliable low-complexity decoding of EGPRS2 communication burst when RTTI and BTTI apparatuses operate in the same time slot (group).

SOLUTION: Various configurations for uplink status flag (USF) mapping use adjustable bit replacement of a part or all of USF channel coding bits in a communication burst. Configurations which make possible adjustable use of a symbol mapping stage in a transmitter and a receiver for the purpose of enhancing throughput and/or reducing complexity are also disclosed. Admissible mapping rules are known to the receiver and the transmitter. In order to increase throughput for the EGPRS2 communication burst introduced is RTTI transmission by a different modulation type or an EGPRS/EGPRS2 modulation and encoding scheme during the BTTI interval which makes reliable USF decoding possible and makes the complexity of the decoder reduced.
