A wireless transmit / receive unit (WTRU) is configured to erase HSDPA resources when operating in HSDPA (High Speed Data Packet Access) mode in a cell and / or state and moving out of the cell and / or state. If the condition for performing fast downlink shared channel reception is not met, the WTRU is configured to clear the HSDPA resource. In the case of a cell change or state change, the WTRU checks for ongoing HS-DSCH (High Speed Downlink Scheduling CHannel) reception and if the new cell or state cannot support HS-DSCH. Release HSDPA resources used for ongoing HS-DSCH reception. The WTRU uses radio resource control (RRC) processing and monitors various events and conditions, eg, RRC variable HS_DSCH_RECEPTION_GENERAL, to determine whether to release HSDPA resources for all states HS- Track DSCH reception.
