Abstract  Abstract

A method of operation of a user equipment (100) that is configured to exchange signals with nodes of a cellular radio access network, the method comprising the user equipment connected to at least one cellular radio access network through at least a first radio link, using a first set of operating parameters that are associated with at least a first radio link; the user equipment performs a measurement of an amount that is indicative of the current operating temperature of the user equipment or performs a predefined sequence of at least two such measurements; the user equipment determines whether at least a predetermined upper threshold value of the operating temperature or an increase in the operating temperature or an index of increase in the measured operating temperature has been reached or exceeded; if it is determined that the upper threshold value is reached or exceeded, the user equipment transmits a temperature information element to a cellular radio access network node, the temperature information element being indicative of the fact that it has been reached or exceeded the respective upper threshold value; receiving the user equipment, in response to its transmission of the temperature information element, from a radio network controller node (200) a control signal indicative of an instruction to the user equipment to reconfigure its connection to the at least one Cellular radio access network to use a second set of operating parameters that require a lower average power input by the user equipment when using radio resources for connection to the at least one cellular radio access network compared to the first set of operational parameters; wherein the received control signal is additionally indicative of an instruction to operate under an assignment to at least a second radio link, which is different from the first radio link, and in which the user equipment, in response to receiving the control signal, performs a radio link reconfiguration procedure to change from at least a first radio link to at least a second radio link in different RAT to use the second set of operating parameters instead of the First set of operating parameters.
