Abstract  Abstract

A method at a base station in a wireless access network (100), for assigning time-frequency units of a downlink sub-frame (103) to user stations (104, 106), the wireless access network being a network of multiple access by orthogonal frequency division, OFDMA, whose method comprises: receiving a feedback indicative of a state of the channel that is transmitted from at least some of the user stations (104), classifying each of the user stations (104, 106) on the basis of feedback, where the classification comprises classifying user stations (104, 106) with a known channel status and that have provided feedback as closed loop user stations (104) and classifying user stations with an unknown channel status, due to a lack of such feedback as open-loop user stations (106); assign at least some contiguous groups of subcarriers (204) of the downlink subframe from available contiguous groups to closed loop user stations (104) by assigning the same contiguous groups of subcarriers (204) to the closed loop user stations (104) for a plurality of OFDMA symbols of the downlink sub-frame; and assign the remaining groups of data subcarriers (206) of the downlink subframe to the open loop user stations (106) for each OFDMA symbol of the downlink subframe.
