A method of controlling a wireless device the method comprising:
controlling a radio of the wireless device during a plurality of awake periods and sleep periods wherein the radio is on during each of the awake periods and asleep for at least some of the sleep periods;
receiving during an awake period signaling that defines a downlink transmission resource to transmit an additional downlink packet the downlink transmission resource for allocation during a portion of a sleep period; and upon receipt of signaling during the portion of the sleep period that defines additional downlink transmission resource to transmit another additional downlink packet controlling the device to be on for an additional portion of a sleep period.
