Enhancements for operation of a timer

Abstract

A method and an apparatus for operating a timer in a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) includes the WTRU receiving a circuit switch (CS) call request transmitting an enhanced packet switch mobility management service request (ESR) in response to the CS call request starting the timer in response to the transmittal of the ESR receiving a handover command in response to the transmittal of the ESR and stopping the timer upon reception of the handover command.

Claim

1. A method for operating a timer in a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising: receiving a circuit switch (CS) call request; transmitting an enhanced packet switch mobility management service request (ESR) in response to the CS call request; starting the timer in response to the transmittal of the ESR; receiving a handover command in response to the transmittal of the ESR; and stopping the timer upon reception of the handover command to indicate a successful CS fallback procedure.

2. The method as in claim 1 wherein the handover command is a cell change message.

3. The method as in claim 1 further comprising transmitting a CS call rejection indication in the ESR and stopping the timer after a predetermined time period.

4. The method as in claim 3 wherein the predetermined time period is based on a length of time the timer is configured to run when the WTRU transmits a indication of accepting the CS call.

5. A method for operating a timer in a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising: receiving a circuit switch (CS) call request; transmitting an enhanced packet switch mobility management service request (ESR) including a CS call rejection in response to the CS call request; starting the timer in response to the transmittal of the ESR; receiving or transmitting a data packet; and stopping the timer in response to the receiving or transmitting the data packet.

6. The method as in claim 5 wherein the data packet is a protocol data unit (PDU) a non-access stratum (NAS) message or a radio resource control (RRC) message.

7. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) configure to operate a timer, the WTRU comprising: a receiver configured to receive a circuit switch (CS) call request and a handover command; a transmitter configured to transmit an enhanced packet switch mobility management service request (ESR) in response to the CS call request; and a processor configured to start the timer in response to the transmittal of the ESR and stop the timer upon reception of the handover command.

8. The WTRU as in claim 7 wherein the handover command is a cell change message.

9. The WTRU as in claim 7 wherein the WTRU further comprising a transmitter configured to transmit a CS call rejection indication in the ESR and a processor configured to stop the timer after a predetermined time period

10. The WTRU as in claim 9 wherein the predetermined time period is based on a length of time the timer is configured to run when the WTRU transmits a indication of accepting the CS call

11. The WTRU as in claim 7 further comprising a transmitter configured to transmit a CS call rejection indication in the ESR and a processor configured to stop the timer after the WTRU receives or transmits a data packet.']
