Abstract  Abstract

Some of the embodiments of the present invention provide a method for configuring a first user equipment, UE, to exchange side link packets with at least a second UE. The method includes receiving, at the first UE, a first sidelink configuration from a first cell via radio resource control, RRC, signaling over a first interface during a handover procedure to a second cell, wherein the first sidelink configuration is based in part on a second sidelink configuration stored at the first UE by the second cell and based in part on a decision configuration of the second cell, the second cell receiving the second sidelink configuration by the first cell; and exchanging one or more side link packets with the second UE over a second interface based on the first side link configuration received from the first cell during the handover procedure. The first interface may be configured as one of a long term evolution, LTE, uu, interface and a new radio, NR Uu, interface, and the second interface may be configured as one of an LTE, PC5, interface and a NR PC5, interface.
