Abstract  Abstract

The invention discloses a method and device for sending and receiving a discovery signal. The method comprises the following steps: determining the message type of a message in the discovery signal required to be sent; determining the format and content of the discovery signal according to the determined message type, and generating the message, wherein information carried by the message and/or a physical resource region occupied by the message represents the determined message type; sending the generated discovery signal. According to the method and the device, the message type is represented in the discovery signal, so that UE (user equipment) which receives the discovery signal can determine the message type and know a currently adopted discovery mode, the UE can be helped to perform a subsequent discovery process in a correct way, discovery modes between UE can be flexibly selected as needed, and the combined use of various discovery modes is supported.
