Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus for carrying out a cell change in a shared high-speed downlink channel (HS-DSCH) in service, from a source cell to a target cell, are described. A radio network controller (RNC) can preload a wireless transmission / reception unit (WTRU) with the HS-DSCH configuration for the target cell. The WTRU receives and stores the preloaded HS-DSCH configuration. The WTRU can begin monitoring a high-speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH) in the target cell, using the HS-DSCH configuration preloaded for the target cell, on condition that a measurement report is triggered as a result of the event ID. The WTRU can start a timer when the WTRU starts monitoring the HS-SCCH in the target cell and stop monitoring the HS-SCCH in the target cell when the time indicated in the timer expires.
