Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus for indicating a temporary block flow (TBF) to which a field of acknowledgment of receipt / non-acknowledgment of concatenated receipt (PAN) is addressed. A PAN check sequence (PCS) is created, for example, using a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) encoding. The PCS is masked with a temporary flow identity (TFI) assigned to an FBF or a mask generated on the basis of the TFI. Then, it is processed for the transmission of a block of data including the PAN field and the masked PCS. The mask can be generated by converting the TFI using a code (M, N), where M is not greater than the number of bits in the PCS and N is the number of bits in the TFI. With this scheme, a TFI can be transmitted in a PAN field without using specific bits to identify the TBF.
