Abstract  Abstract

A high speed packet access protocol (HSPA) architecture includes an HSPA Node B, an HSPA radio network controller (RNC) and a core network. The Node B HSPA includes a user plane (UP) / a functional layer of lower radio junction controller (RLC) transmission (Tx) to control plane (CP), a lower RLC reception reception layer (RX) UP / CP, a functional medium access control (MAC) layer and a physical layer. The HSPA RNC includes a radio resource controller functional layer (RRC), a data packet convergence protocol (PDCP) functional layer, an upper RLC Tx UP / CP functional layer, a Rx UP / RLC upper RLC functional layer / CP and a physical layer. Node B HSPA is in communication with HSPA RNC and HSPA RNC is in communication with the main network.
